RS170:Biblical Exegesis and Research with Vivien Hibbert, Academic Dean

Course statement: This course offers methodology for sound, scholarly Biblical study and research. The student will have an opportunity to use scriptural methods that highlight the vital role the Word of God plays in their lives personally and also equips the student to create teachings that will “feed” others.  Topics include:

Why study the Bible?
Bible study tools
Bible study methods
Bible outline
Foundations of exegesis
Rules of hermeneutics
Hebrew and Greek word study
How to use types and symbols to gain insights into biblical passages
Learn how to find life for yourself and food for others through Bible study
Learn how to meet the Lord through the Word
Discover ways to find the main themes of each book and each chapter of the Bible
Worship and pray using the Word
How to find God’s secrets through the Word
Answer basic questions on Bible study


Relationship to the Worship Arts Degree Program:
RS170 is a first level course of Religious Studies in the Associate of Worship Arts Degree Program. This curriculum will provide tools to further aid Believers in their study of the Bible

Course Objectives
Upon completion of lessons and assignments the student will:
•    Validate the necessity of studying God’s Word.
•    Understand the process of diligent, careful and sound study methods for “digging” through God’s Word.
•    Discover, through various exercises, which study method is the most effective for them personally.
•    Learn to further deepen the discipline of worship & praying the Word.
•    Find “food” from the Word to share with others in a biblically-based format.
